I also want to clarify that a higher GHz CPU would also enable a better performance for games such as CS:GO or other games with 128 tick?Absolutely, higher clock rate on the CPU is pretty much all that matters when it comes to source games. I was hoping to get around 150 slots out of it, though I am not sure if I am being too optimistic or not. Source games, from what I can remember, only use one thread per server so I am not sure if that would allow me to utilise more slots on that server in comparison to the other one or whether the RAM is seriously restricting it. Your other option would be looking at say a I7-6700k which would far outperform the I7-920Hi Purevoltage, thanks for responding so quickly! However had they not been full 24/7 it could have had a few more servers on it however it's best planning on what is the max the server can support with all of the servers full at once which is a hard question to ask without seeing the usage. When it comes to player slots it really depends on a lot of things such as how full the servers are cpu usage, IO usage not as bad with Gmod and more so with games like Minecraft however it's always something you want to monitor.īefore we had some large TF2 servers hosted which had four 32slot servers almost full 24/7 which ended up creating issues we had to drop one of the 32 slots down to 24 in order to keep everything running smoothly. If you are on a budget the desktop cpu's also work however they lack the IPMI features. I would suggest going for a E3-12xx with 32gb ram or a E5-1650 would be a good option.
